5 Essential Beauty Products for a quick morning routine

Updated: May 16, 2021

More often than not, we are in a position where we have a lot less time to get ready than we’d like. It’s definitely a bummer when you constantly find yourself having to choose between looking your best and getting out the door on time (and I’m sure oftentimes you pick the latter). Over the years, I have really been leaning into figuring out the top 5 products I need to feel my best day-to-day, that can also be applied quickly or on the go. So read on, if you’re looking for ways to look more refreshed, more awake, and just feel more confident heading out into the world.

A lightweight concealer is a great place to start, especially if you’re in a rush. Putting on a whole face of foundation honestly seems completely ridiculous. And sorry, but if you were planning to blend your whole face in 5 minutes or less... it's very risky my friend… This is why I recommend choosing to conceal the under-eye area (to reduce the look of tiredness), and any prominent blemishes… that’s it! It’s also important that it’s lightweight, so it’s easy to blend & gives a natural finish.

Next, I would add a great lengthening mascara, that also adds volume! It really makes your eyes pop, allowing them to become the real focal point of your face. In terms of colour, be sure to keep it simple with a black or dark brow shade. Both will give your lashes an extra lift, but choosing dark brown (as opposed to the popular black) will provide a little more subtlety to the look.

It is key to have a great matte lipstick that is wearable in every setting. But for a quick routine, it is just as important to get one with an applicator & formula that makes application both clean & easy. I also recommend one that doesn’t completely dry out your lips, because drying products = a tired look.

I think by now we all know the importance of good brows. It’s especially important not to go overboard when you’re in a hurry, and not doing a full face of makeup. I like to use The Face Shop "Designing Eyebrow Pencil". Not only does it have a brush & eyebrow pencil in one compact pen. But the pencil itself provides a very light & buildable application, that prevents your brows from looking like they’ve been drawn on with a permanent marker. When using any eyebrow pencil, remember to apply in short, single strokes, for a more natural look. I like to brush my brows into shape, then only use the pencil to fill in any prominent gaps, which gives the brows a fuller, more uniform appearance.

Last, but not least, is a Liquid Highlighter that isn’t too far from your skin tone. This will literally give your skin a fresh, dewy look in seconds! Apply a small amount to the bridge of your nose, cheekbones, and chin for a subtle highlight. Choose one that doesn’t have much (or any) glitter in it. Instead, look for a liquid highlighter that has a nice sheen for everyday wear.

Extra tip: if you’re feeling a little more washed out than usual, use a pink blush to bring some subtle colour back to your face!
